Macon Telegraph: Ocmulgee Mounds park expands with 136 acre donation. Here's why

The Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park has grown by over 136 acres thanks to a donation from the Georgia Department of Transportation. This significant land transfer, which is separate from the ongoing push to designate the mounds as a national park, returns historically important land to the stewardship of the National Park Service. The donated acreage, once home to the Muscogee (Creek) people, is a key part of the Ocmulgee River corridor and its preservation is a major step in honoring the area's rich cultural and ecological heritage.
