Development Manager (with Marketing & Communications Responsibilities)
Position Summary
The Development Manager leads day-to-day fundraising efforts for ONPPI, with a primary focus on executing development activities, managing donor engagement, and supporting revenue growth. This role also oversees marketing and communications functions that support fundraising and increase public awareness of ONPPI’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising & Development:
Support implementation of fundraising plan
Assist in securing and stewarding gifts
Prioritize fundraising efforts that advance conservation, land protection, community engagement, and long-term stewardship across the Ocmulgee Corridor and surrounding Middle Georgia landscape.
Research, identify, write, and manage grant applications for local, state, federal, and private funding opportunities.
Maintain accurate donor and fundraising records, including gift tracking, grant calendars, reporting deadlines, and stewardship activity, using appropriate database and tracking systems
Prepare timely finance and fundraising reports for the CEO, Board of Directors, and current or prospective funders.
Marketing & Communications:
Manage social media and marketing efforts for the organization in assistance with vendor, staff and/or interns.
Coordinate fundraising materials across all platforms
Ensure consistent messaging between writing, social media, and public imaging
Partnerships & Engagement:
Support relationships with donors and partners
Represent the organization professionally with funders, public agencies, community leaders, and strategic partners.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, grant writing, or a related field.
Demonstrated success securing five- and six-figure gifts.
Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to donors, foundations, agencies, community members, and Board leadership.
Experience managing donor records, fundraising systems, reporting tools, and development workflows with strong attention to detail.
Knowledge of philanthropic, civic, and community foundations in Middle Georgia, as well as conservation-focused funders in Georgia and nationally.
Familiarity with partnerships involving nonprofit organizations, public agencies, Tribal governments, and community-based stakeholders.
General knowledge of the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and public funding and appropriations processes is preferred.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and build trusted relationships across diverse constituencies.
